Programming Guide for 2020 Buick Regal TourX Keyless Entry Remote Fob (Smart Key / Keyless Access System)

Overview: The 2020 Regal TourX utilizes a smart key system that supports remote programming. Depending on your situation, follow the appropriate method below: If you have two recognized remote transmitters, use the with recognized transmitter method. If no remotes are currently programmed, use the without recognized transmitter method. Programming with Two Recognized Transmitters This method is used to add an additional remote when two working transmitters are already available.

  • Step 1: Place both existing remotes into the storage bin marked with a lock icon. (Typically found inside the center console or under the cupholder.)
  • Step 2: Remove the key lock cylinder cap from the driver’s side door.
  • Step 3: Insert the mechanical key from the new remote into the driver door lock, and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. → The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display: “Ready for Remote #3”, #4, or the next available number.
  • Step 4: Place the new transmitter into the storage bin, with buttons facing up.
  • Step 5: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. → The DIC will confirm successful programming of the remote.
  • Step 6: Remove the remote from the bin and press the unlock button to verify operation.
  • Step 7: Repeat Steps 3–6 to program additional transmitters, if needed.
  • Step 8: Once finished, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
  • Step 9: Reinsert the mechanical key into the remote and reinstall the key lock cylinder cap.

Programming Without a Recognized Transmitter: Use this method if no working transmitters are available. This procedure takes approximately 30 minutes.

  • Step 1: Remove the key lock cylinder cap from the driver’s side door handle.
  • Step 2: Insert the mechanical key into the door lock, and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. → The DIC will show: “Remote Learn Pending. Please Wait.”
  • Step 3: Wait about 10 minutes until the DIC changes to: “Press Engine Start Button to Learn.” Then press the ENGINE START/STOP button.
  • Step 4: The DIC will again show “Remote Learn Pending.” Repeat Step 3 two additional times (three 10-minute cycles total).
  • Step 5: After the third cycle, the DIC will display: “Ready for Remote #1.”
  • Step 6: Place the first remote into the storage bin, with buttons facing upward.
  • Step 7: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. → The DIC will confirm the remote is programmed.
  • Step 8: Remove the remote and press the unlock button to verify it’s working.
  • Step 9: Repeat Steps 6–8 to program up to eight transmitters in total.
  • Step 10: When all remotes have been added, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
  • Step 11: Reinsert the key into the remote and replace the key lock cylinder cap.

Additional Notes:

Maximum Limit: The system can store up to eight remotes.

Battery Check: Ensure all remotes have working batteries before starting.

Time-Sensitive: Each step must be completed within the required time to avoid errors.

Memory Reset: If no recognized remotes are available, previously stored remotes will be erased during the process.
