Programming Guide for 2020 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: This vehicle allows onboard programming for smart key remote fobs. You can add a new remote either by using two recognized fobs or through a timed procedure if no recognized fobs are available. The system can register up to eight remotes. Carefully follow the instructions that apply to your situation.

Programming with Two Recognized Remote Fobs: If you currently have two functional remote fobs, follow these steps to program additional fobs:

  • Step 1: Ensure the vehicle is completely off and that all doors are securely closed.
  • Step 2: Place both recognized remote fobs inside the front cupholder.
  • Step 3: Remove the cap from the key lock cylinder on the driver’s door handle to reveal the lock.
  • Step 4: Insert the mechanical key from one of the remotes into the lock and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. This will activate programming mode, and the dashboard will show READY FOR REMOTE #2 or similar.
  • Step 5: Open the center console storage area between the front seats and lift the tray to access the transmitter pocket. Place the new remote fob inside the transmitter pocket.
  • Step 6: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button once. The vehicle will learn the new remote and display a message indicating readiness to program the next one.
  • Step 7: Remove the new remote from the transmitter pocket and press either the Lock or Unlock button to confirm that the remote is functioning correctly.
  • Step 8: Repeat Steps 5 through 7 for any additional remotes you wish to program.
  • Step 9: Once all remotes have been programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
  • Step 10: Reinsert the mechanical key into the remote fob.
  • Step 11: Reinstall the key cylinder cap on the driver’s door handle.

Programming Without Recognized Remote Fobs: If no working remotes are available, follow this procedure. It will take approximately 30 minutes to complete, and the vehicle must be off for the entire process.

  • Step 1: Ensure the vehicle is off and all doors are closed.
  • Step 2: Remove the key cylinder cap on the driver’s door handle to expose the lock.
  • Step 3: Insert the mechanical key into the lock and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. The dashboard will show REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.
  • Step 4: Wait approximately 10 minutes until the display shows PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN, then press the ENGINE START/STOP button.
  • Step 5: The display will return to REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT. Repeat this two more times for a total of three cycles. After the third cycle, all previously recognized remotes will be erased, and the display will read READY FOR REMOTE #1.
  • Step 6: Open the center console, lift the storage tray, and place the first new remote into the transmitter pocket.
  • Step 7: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. The system will detect and program the new remote.
  • Step 8: Remove the remote from the transmitter pocket and press either the Lock or Unlock button to ensure proper functionality.
  • Step 9: Repeat Steps 6 through 8 to program additional remotes.
  • Step 10: Once all remotes are programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
  • Step 11: Reinsert the mechanical key into the remote fob.
  • Step 12: Reinstall the key cylinder cap on the driver’s door handle.

Additional Considerations:

Maximum Supported Remotes: Up to eight remotes can be paired with the vehicle.

Timing is Essential: Complete all steps, especially those involving key turns or button presses, within the allowed time to ensure success.

Ownership Verification: If no remotes are available and outside help is required, proof of ownership may be requested before programming can proceed.
