<h1>2020 GMC Sierra – Smart Key Remote Programming Instructions</h1> For Sierra models equipped with push-button start and keyless access, remote fob programming can be done with or without previously recognized transmitters. Follow the applicable method below. Programming with Two Working Remotes You can program an additional remote when you already have two functioning fobs. <ul> <li>Step 1: Remove the physical key blade from one of the working remotes. </li> <li>Step 2: Place both known remotes inside the vehicle, preferably in the cupholder or front seat. </li> <li>Step 3: Insert the key blade into the driver’s door lock cylinder. Turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. The display should show "READY FOR REMOTE #2, 3, 4, ETC." </li> <li>Step 4: Place the new fob into the designated slot. This slot is found inside the center console ahead of the tray compartment. </li> <li>Step 5: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button once. When the system learns the remote, the display will update accordingly. </li> <li>Step 6: Remove the fob from the slot and press either LOCK or UNLOCK. </li> <li>Step 7: Repeat Steps 4–6 for any additional remotes. </li> <li>Step 8: Once all remotes are added, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to finish. </li> </ul> Programming Without Recognized Remotes This method is used if no working remotes are available. The process takes approximately 30 minutes. <ul> <li>Step 1: Remove the key blade from the new remote. </li> <li>Step 2: Insert the key into the driver’s door lock and turn it to the unlock position five times quickly. The system will show "REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT." </li> <li>Step 3: Wait 10 minutes until the screen shows "PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN", then press ENGINE START/STOP. </li> <li>Step 4: Repeat Step 3 two more times. After the third cycle, all previously learned remotes will be erased. </li> <li>Step 5: The display will then read "READY FOR REMOTE #1." Place the new remote in the slot within the center console. </li> <li>Step 6: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. Once accepted, the display will show it’s ready for the next remote. </li> <li>Step 7: Remove the fob and press either LOCK or UNLOCK. </li> <li>Step 8: Repeat Steps 5–7 to add up to eight total remotes. </li> <li>Step 9: When complete, hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to exit programming mode. </li> <li>Step 10: Reinsert the key blade into each remote.</li> </ul>
