<h1>2020 GMC Terrain &mdash; Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming (Smart Key)</h1> <p><font size="3">The 2020 Terrain offers two programming procedures depending on whether you have recognized remotes. Follow the section that best applies to your situation. </font></p> <p><font size="3"><b>If You Have Two Recognized Transmitters</b> </font></p> <p><font size="3">If you already have two programmed key fobs, you can add additional remotes without special equipment. </font></p> <ul> <li><font size="3">Step 1: Remove the cap covering the key lock cylinder on the driver&rsquo;s door handle. Place both recognized remotes inside the front cup holder. </font></li> <li><font size="3">Step 2: Take the mechanical key from one transmitter and insert it into the door lock. Turn the key counterclockwise to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display: &ldquo;READY FOR REMOTE #2, 3, 4, ETC.&rdquo; </font></li> <li><font size="3">Step 3: Place the new (unprogrammed) remote into the front cup holder. </font></li> <li><font size="3">Step 4: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button once. The DIC will confirm when the remote has been successfully added and is ready to accept another. </font></li> <li><font size="3">Step 5: Remove the newly programmed remote and press either LOCK or UNLOCK to complete the pairing. Repeat Steps 3&ndash;5 for each additional remote. </font></li> <li><font size="3">Step 6: Once programming is complete, press and hold ENGINE START/STOP for 12 seconds to exit programming mode. </font></li> <li><font size="3">Step 7: Return the mechanical key back into the transmitter.</font></li> </ul> <p><b><font size="3"> If You Do Not Have Any Recognized Transmitters</font></b></p> <p><font size="3"> If you&rsquo;ve lost all remotes, you can still program new ones by completing a timed sequence. This process will take about 30 minutes and is not available for vehicles sold in Canada. </font></p> <ul> <li><font size="3">Step 1: Remove the key lock cylinder cap on the driver&rsquo;s door handle. Insert the mechanical key into the lock and turn it counterclockwise to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. The DIC will display: &ldquo;REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.&rdquo; </font></li> <li><font size="3">Step 2: Wait for approximately 10 minutes until the DIC updates to say: &ldquo;PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN.&rdquo; Then press the ENGINE START/STOP button. </font></li> <li><font size="3">Step 3: Repeat Step 2 two more times (for a total of three cycles). After the third cycle, all previously programmed remotes will be erased. The DIC will now show: &ldquo;READY FOR REMOTE #1.&rdquo; </font></li> <li><font size="3">Step 4: Place the new transmitter into the front cup holder. </font></li> <li><font size="3">Step 5: Press ENGINE START/STOP. The DIC will confirm when the transmitter has been successfully added. </font></li> <li><font size="3">Step 6: Remove the transmitter from the cup holder and press LOCK or UNLOCK. Repeat Steps 4&ndash;6 to program up to eight remotes. </font></li> <li><font size="3">Step 7: Press and hold ENGINE START/STOP for 12 seconds to exit programming mode. </font></li> <li><font size="3">Step 8: Reinsert the mechanical key into the transmitter for storage.</font></li> </ul>
