2020 GMC Yukon – Smart Key Fob Programming Instructions Depending on your vehicle configuration and the availability of programmed remotes, follow the applicable procedure below. Option 1: For Vehicles with a Separate Key and Remote (Non-Smart Key System) This vehicle configuration does not support onboard programming. A qualified professional is required to perform the programming using specialized equipment. Steps: <ul> <li>Step 1: Contact a certified automotive technician who has the proper tools and experience in remote fob programming. </li> <li>Step 2: If the vehicle is operational, consider driving it to the technician’s location to reduce potential service costs. </li> <li>Step 3: The technician will connect diagnostic equipment to the vehicle’s onboard system to complete the smart key fob programming process. </li> </ul> Option 2: Programming with Two Programmed Smart Keys Use this method if you have two working smart keys and wish to add a new one. All current and new remotes must be present during the process. Steps: <ul> <li>Step 1: Remove the mechanical key from one of the working smart key remotes. </li> <li>Step 2: Place both programmed smart keys in the cupholder or on the passenger seat. </li> <li>Step 3: Insert the mechanical key into the driver's door lock. Turn it counterclockwise to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. – The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display: “READY FOR REMOTE #2, 3, 4, ETC.” </li> <li>Step 4: Place the new remote in the remote pocket, located inside the center console in front of the storage tray between the driver and front passenger seats. </li> <li>Step 5: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. – The DIC will confirm once the remote is successfully programmed and prompt you to program the next. </li> <li>Step 6: Remove the remote from the pocket and press LOCK or UNLOCK to verify functionality. – To program additional remotes, repeat Steps 4–6 for each one. </li> <li>Step 7: After programming is complete, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for approximately 12 seconds to exit programming mode. Step 8: Return the mechanical key into the remote. </li> </ul> Option 3: Programming Without a Programmed Smart Key Use this procedure if you do not have any programmed remotes. This method allows programming of up to eight remotes. The process takes approximately 30 minutes and is not available in Canada. Steps: <ul> <li>Step 1: Remove the mechanical key from one of the unprogrammed remotes. </li> <li>Step 2: Insert the key into the driver door lock. Turn it counterclockwise to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. – The DIC will display: “REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.” </li> <li>Step 3: Wait approximately 10 minutes until prompted with: “PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN.” </li> <li>Step 4: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. – The display will return to “REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.” </li> <li>Step 5: Repeat Step 4 two more times for a total of three 10-minute cycles. – After the third cycle, the DIC will display: “READY FOR REMOTE #1.” – Any previously programmed remotes will be erased. </li> <li>Step 6: Place the new remote in the remote pocket inside the center console. </li> <li>Step 7: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. – The remote will be programmed and the DIC will prompt for the next remote. </li> <li>Step 8: Remove the remote and press LOCK or UNLOCK to confirm pairing. – Repeat Steps 6–8 for each additional remote. </li> <li>Step 9: Once all remotes are programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for approximately 12 seconds to exit programming mode. </li> <li>Step 10: Reinsert the mechanical key into the remote.</li> </ul>
