2021 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob – Envision
Important Note: The 2021 model year does not support onboard programming. A new smart key remote must be programmed using specialized electronic tools by a qualified technician. This procedure cannot be performed manually by the vehicle owner.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Confirm that no existing onboard method is available for programming. This model requires professional tools and cannot be programmed using standard key-turn methods.
- Step 2: Gather all remote fobs currently in use. Some systems require all remotes to be present during reprogramming, as older remotes may be erased in the process.
- Step 3: Collect your vehicle documentation. You may need to provide proof of ownership, such as the vehicle title or registration, along with a valid photo ID.
- Step 4: Arrange an appointment with a technician who has access to advanced automotive programming tools. This could include certified service facilities or independent professionals with the necessary equipment.
- Step 5: If your vehicle is operational, consider driving it to the service location. Doing so may reduce overall service fees compared to requesting mobile assistance.
- Step 6: The technician will connect a diagnostic interface to your vehicle’s onboard system through the OBD-II port, usually located under the dashboard.
- Step 7: Using manufacturer-specific software, the technician will access the vehicle’s security system and initiate the key programming process.
- Step 8: The new smart key will be electronically paired with your vehicle. Any previous remotes not present may be deactivated during this process.
- Step 9: Once programming is complete, each remote will be tested to ensure all functions—including lock/unlock, remote start, and panic features—are working properly.
- Step 10: Store spare keys in a secure location. Consider labeling newly programmed remotes to distinguish them from older ones.
Additional Considerations:
Some vehicles require two working remotes to program a third. In this model year, however, remote pairing is only possible through diagnostic tools. Always use a technician familiar with vehicle security systems to avoid incorrect programming or key incompatibility. Keep extra remotes on hand in case one is lost or damaged, as programming multiple keys in a single session is often more cost-effective.
