Programming Guide for 2021 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob – Cadillac Escalade
Important Notice: The 2021 Escalade allows onboard programming of smart key remote fobs when two recognized keys are present. A maximum of eight remote keys can be programmed to the vehicle. If no working remotes are available, professional programming using specialized equipment is required.
Method A: Programming with Two Recognized Remote Keys Use this method if you have two functional remote keys.
- Step 1: Position the Recognized Remotes Place both recognized remote keys on the front passenger seat.
- Step 2: Access the Remote Key Learning Menu Using the Driver Information Center (DIC), scroll to the menu option: Remote Key Relearn, then select it. The DIC will display: READY FOR REMOTE #3, 4, 5, etc.
- Step 3: Insert the New Remote Place the new remote key into the front cupholder.
- Step 4: Begin Programming Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. Once the key is learned, the DIC will update and display readiness for the next remote.
- Step 5: Confirm and Repeat Remove the newly programmed remote from the cupholder and press either the LOCK or UNLOCK button. Repeat Steps 3–5 for each additional remote key.
- Step 6: Exit Programming Mode After all remotes are programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for approximately 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
Method B: Programming Without Recognized Remote Keys Use this method if you do not have any functioning remotes. Professional assistance is required.
- Step 1: Confirm Programming Requirements When no recognized remote keys are available, onboard programming is disabled. Programming must be performed using manufacturer-grade diagnostic tools.
- Step 2: Prepare Vehicle Information Have your vehicle’s VIN, proof of ownership, and all new remotes ready for the technician.
- Step 3: Schedule a Service Appointment A trained automotive technician will connect specialized diagnostic equipment to the vehicle's onboard systems to securely program new remote keys.
- Step 4: Verify Programming Once programming is complete, test each remote to ensure LOCK, UNLOCK, and START functions are working correctly.
Additional Considerations:
Program All Keys Together: Any remotes not included in the session will be removed from memory.
Battery Check: Ensure each key has a functional battery before programming.
System Capacity: The Escalade can support up to eight remote keys.
Time Estimate: Onboard programming takes just a few minutes with recognized remotes. Without them, allow additional time for technician setup and configuration.
