Programming Guide for 2021 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Important Notice: This vehicle allows for the programming of smart key remote fobs through two methods: with two recognized fobs or through a timed process if no remotes are available. Up to eight remotes can be programmed for the vehicle. Follow the appropriate set of instructions below based on your situation.
Programming with Two Recognized Remote Fobs: This method is used when two functional remote fobs are available.
- Step 1: Ensure the vehicle is turned off and all doors are securely closed.
- Step 2: Place both recognized remote fobs into the front cupholder.
- Step 3: Remove the key lock cylinder cap on the driver’s door handle to expose the mechanical key slot.
- Step 4: Insert the mechanical key from one of the remotes into the lock cylinder and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. This activates programming mode. The dashboard will display READY FOR REMOTE #2 or a similar message.
- Step 5: Open the center console storage area between the front seats and lift the storage tray to access the transmitter pocket. Place the new remote fob inside the pocket.
- Step 6: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button once. The system will register the new remote and signal that it is ready to program another.
- Step 7: Remove the newly programmed remote from the transmitter pocket and press the Lock or Unlock button to confirm proper functionality.
- Step 8: Repeat Steps 5 through 7 for each additional remote you wish to program.
- Step 9: Once all remotes have been programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
- Step 10: Reinsert the mechanical key into its remote fob.
- Step 11: Reinstall the key lock cylinder cap on the driver’s door handle.
Programming Without Recognized Remote Fobs: If no working remotes are available, follow this 30-minute timed procedure to program new remotes. This feature is not available in all regions.
- Step 1: Confirm that the vehicle is off and all doors are securely closed.
- Step 2: Remove the key cylinder cap from the driver’s door handle to reveal the lock.
- Step 3: Insert the mechanical key into the lock cylinder and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. The display will show REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.
- Step 4: Wait approximately 10 minutes until the display reads PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN, then press the ENGINE START/STOP button.
- Step 5: The display will return to REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT. Repeat Step 4 two more times (for a total of three 10-minute cycles). After the third cycle, all previously stored remotes will be erased, and the display will read READY FOR REMOTE #1.
- Step 6: Open the center console, lift the tray, and place the new remote inside the transmitter pocket.
- Step 7: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button once. The system will detect and program the new remote.
- Step 8: Remove the remote from the pocket and press either the Lock or Unlock button to verify functionality.
- Step 9: Repeat Steps 6 through 8 for any additional remotes you wish to program.
- Step 10: Once all remotes have been programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
- Step 11: Reinsert the mechanical key into the remote fob.
- Step 12: Reinstall the key lock cylinder cap on the driver’s door handle.
Additional Considerations:
Maximum Remotes: Up to eight remotes can be programmed to the vehicle.
Timing is Essential: Ensure all actions, including key turns and button presses, are completed within the specified time to avoid resetting the process.
Proof of Ownership: If all remotes are lost and external assistance is required, proof of ownership may be requested to authorize the programming process.
