Programming Guide for 2021 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Important Notice: This vehicle supports onboard programming for smart key remote fobs. A new remote can be added using two recognized fobs or by following a timed procedure if no remotes are available. The vehicle can register up to eight remote fobs. Carefully follow the instructions below based on your specific situation.
Programming with Two Recognized Remote Fobs: If you have two working remote fobs, follow these steps to add additional remotes:
- Step 1: Ensure that the vehicle is completely off and all doors are securely closed.
- Step 2: Place both recognized remote fobs into the front cupholder.
- Step 3: Remove the key lock cylinder cap on the driver’s door handle to expose the lock.
- Step 4: Insert the mechanical key into the lock cylinder and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display READY FOR REMOTE #2, indicating that the system is ready to accept a new remote.
- Step 5: Open the center console storage area between the driver and front passenger seats. Lift the storage tray to access the transmitter pocket. Place the new remote inside the pocket.
- Step 6: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button once. The vehicle will register the new remote and display a message indicating that it is ready for the next remote.
- Step 7: Remove the new remote from the pocket and press either the Lock or Unlock button to confirm that the remote is functioning correctly.
- Step 8: Repeat Steps 5 through 7 for each additional remote you wish to program.
- Step 9: Once all remotes are programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
- Step 10: Reinsert the mechanical key into the remote fob.
- Step 11: Reinstall the key lock cylinder cap on the driver’s door handle.
Programming Without Recognized Remote Fobs: If no remotes are available, follow this procedure to program up to eight remotes. This process takes approximately 30 minutes and is not available in all regions.
- Step 1: Ensure that the vehicle is off and all doors are securely closed.
- Step 2: Remove the key lock cylinder cap from the driver’s door handle to expose the lock.
- Step 3: Insert the mechanical key into the lock and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. The DIC will show REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.
- Step 4: Wait approximately 10 minutes until the DIC displays PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN, then press the ENGINE START/STOP button.
- Step 5: The DIC will return to REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT. Repeat Step 4 two more times, for a total of three 10-minute cycles. After the third cycle, all previously stored remotes will be erased, and the DIC will show READY FOR REMOTE #1.
- Step 6: Open the center console storage area and lift the storage tray to access the transmitter pocket. Place the new remote inside the pocket.
- Step 7: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. The system will recognize and learn the new remote.
- Step 8: Remove the remote from the pocket and press either the Lock or Unlock button to verify the remote is properly programmed.
- Step 9: Repeat Steps 6 through 8 for each additional remote you wish to program.
- Step 10: Once all remotes are programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
- Step 11: Return the mechanical key to its original position inside the remote fob.
- Step 12: Reinstall the key lock cylinder cap on the driver’s door handle.
Additional Considerations:
- Maximum Supported Remotes: You can program up to eight remote fobs to the vehicle.
- Timing is Critical: Ensure all key turns, button presses, and actions are completed within the required time to avoid resetting the programming process.
- Proof of Ownership: If no remotes are available, proof of ownership (e.g., title, registration) may be required to proceed with programming.
