Smart Key Remote Programming Guide – 2021 Genesis G90

Important Information: The 2021 Genesis G90 does not support onboard programming for smart key remote fobs. Programming must be completed by a trained technician using specialized diagnostic equipment.

Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Contact a certified automotive technician or authorized service provider who is experienced with smart key systems and has access to the necessary diagnostic tools.
  • Step 2: Confirm that the technician is equipped with compatible diagnostic software capable of securely interfacing with your vehicle’s electronic control system.
  • Step 3: If the vehicle is operable, consider driving it to the technician’s location rather than requesting mobile service, which may help reduce overall costs.
  • Step 4: Schedule your appointment ahead of time to ensure availability and allow the technician to prepare the appropriate tools for your specific model.
  • Step 5: Bring all current smart keys with you. Some systems require all remotes to be reprogrammed during the same session to ensure full compatibility.
  • Step 6: At the service location, the technician will connect a diagnostic device to the vehicle’s onboard diagnostic port, typically found beneath the dashboard.
  • Step 7: The technician will initiate the programming sequence through the diagnostic interface, registering the new smart key to the vehicle’s system.
  • Step 8: After programming, all key functions—such as remote entry, engine start, and trunk access—will be tested to verify successful registration.
  • Step 9: Test each remote yourself before leaving to ensure that every function is working properly.
  • Step 10: Keep backup remotes stored in a safe place, and consider having an additional key programmed for emergency use.
