2021 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport

Programming Guide for 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Keyless Entry Remote Fob and Smart Key

A. Programming a Regular Key or Remote Head Key (Immobilizer Portion Only)

Note: Requires two already programmed keys to add an additional key.

  • Step 1: Insert the first programmed key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position for 5 seconds.
  • Step 2: Turn the key to the LOCK position and remove it from the ignition.
  • Step 3: Within 30 seconds, insert the second programmed key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position. Wait about 10 seconds until the immobilizer light starts to blink.
  • Step 4: Once the light blinks, turn the second key to the LOCK position and remove it. Quickly, within 30 seconds, insert the new unprogrammed key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position.
  • Step 5: If the programming is successful, the immobilizer light will illuminate for 3 seconds then extinguish. Restart from Step 1 if an error occurs.
  • Step 6: To add additional keys, repeat steps 1 through 5 for each new key.

B. Programming the Remote Portion (Remote Head Key Only)

Note: Requires at least one programmed remote to enter programming mode.

  • Step 1: Gather all remote fobs intended for programming.
  • Step 2: With a programmed remote, press and hold the UNLOCK button for 4 to 10 seconds, then simultaneously press and hold the LOCK button.
  • Step 3: Within 10 seconds, sequentially release the LOCK and then the UNLOCK buttons. This will erase all remotes except for the one used to initiate this sequence. The vehicle will confirm entry into programming mode by locking and unlocking the doors.
  • Step 4: Within 60 seconds after entering programming mode, for each remote: Press both LOCK and UNLOCK buttons together for 2 seconds. Release both buttons for 1 second. Press the UNLOCK button.
  • Step 5: If successful, the door locks will cycle after each remote is programmed. Repeat step 4 for each additional remote.
  • Step 6: After 60 seconds of inactivity, the vehicle automatically exits programming mode. Test all remotes to ensure functionality.

C. Programming a Smart Key System

Note: Requires two already programmed Smart Keys to add another.

  • Step 1: Open the driver’s door (keep it open throughout the process) and ensure no other doors are opened or closed.
  • Step 2: With the first programmed Smart Key, turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start the engine).
  • Step 3: Insert the new unprogrammed Smart Key into the key slot as shown in the vehicle's manual.
  • Step 4: Press the UNLOCK button for 4 to 10 seconds and press the LOCK button within this time frame.
  • Step 5: Sequentially release the LOCK and then the UNLOCK buttons within 10 seconds after pressing the LOCK button.
  • Step 6: Repeat steps 4 and 5 with the second programmed Smart Key.
  • Step 7: When successful, the vehicle's immobilizer indicator on the multi-information display will blink, and the system will emit three beeps, indicating successful programming. If an error occurs, programming will terminate, and a buzzer will sound.
  • Step 8: To program another Smart Key, turn off the ignition, remove the newly programmed key, and restart the process from Step 1.
