Programming Guide for 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Keyless Entry Remote Fob and Smart Key

A. Programming a Regular Key or Remote Head Key (Immobilizer Portion Only)

Note: Requires two already programmed keys to add an additional key.

  • Step 1: Insert the first programmed key into the ignition. Turn it to the ON position for 5 seconds.
  • Step 2: Switch the ignition to the LOCK position and remove the key.
  • Step 3: Within 30 seconds, insert the second programmed key and turn it to the ON position. After about 10 seconds, the immobilizer light will start to blink.
  • Step 4: Turn the second key to the LOCK position and remove it. Quickly, within 30 seconds, insert the new unprogrammed key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position.
  • Step 5: When the immobilizer light stays on for 3 seconds and then turns off, the programming is complete. Restart the process if the light goes off during the procedure due to an error.
  • Step 6: To program additional keys, repeat Steps 1 through 5.

B. Programming the Remote Portion (Remote Head Key Only)

Note: Requires at least one programmed remote to enter programming mode.

  • Step 1: Ensure all remotes intended for programming are present.
  • Step 2: With a programmed remote, press and hold the UNLOCK button for 4 to 10 seconds, then press and hold the LOCK button simultaneously.
  • Step 3: Release the LOCK button first, then the UNLOCK button. This sequence will erase all remotes except the one used to initiate this process. The vehicle will confirm programming mode entry by locking and unlocking the doors.
  • Step 4: Within 60 seconds after entering programming mode, for each remote: Press both LOCK and UNLOCK buttons together for 2 seconds. Release both buttons for 1 second. Press and release the UNLOCK button.
  • Step 5: If successful, the door locks will cycle after each remote is programmed. Repeat Step 4 for each additional remote within 60 seconds.
  • Step 6: If no additional remotes are programmed within 60 seconds, the vehicle automatically exits programming mode.
  • Step 7: Test all remotes to ensure functionality.

C. Programming a Smart Key System

Note: Requires two already programmed Smart Keys to add another.

  • Step 1: Open the driver’s door and leave it open throughout the programming process. Do not open or close other doors.
  • Step 2: With the first programmed Smart Key, turn the ignition to the ON position (without starting the engine).
  • Step 3: Insert the new unprogrammed Smart Key into the key slot as indicated in the vehicle's manual.
  • Step 4: Press the UNLOCK button for 4 to 10 seconds, then press the LOCK button.
  • Step 5: Release the LOCK button first, followed by the UNLOCK button.
  • Step 6: Repeat Steps 4 and 5 with the second programmed Smart Key.
  • Step 7: Successful programming is indicated by the immobilizer icon blinking on the multi-information display, followed by three beeps, and the immobilizer display illuminating for 30 seconds.
  • Step 8: To program another Smart Key, turn off the ignition, remove the new Smart Key, and restart the procedure from Step 1.
