2022 Toyota Mirai

Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Instructions for the 2022 Toyota Mirai

Important Notice: The 2022 Toyota Mirai does not support onboard or manual programming for smart key remote fobs. Programming must be performed by a qualified technician using specialized diagnostic tools and secure software.

Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Schedule service with a certified automotive technician who is properly trained to handle smart key systems and has access to manufacturer-approved programming equipment.
  • Step 2: Confirm that the technician has experience working with hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and understands the smart key system used in the 2022 Mirai.
  • Step 3: If your vehicle is operational, consider transporting it to the technician’s location to minimize costs associated with mobile service calls.
  • Step 4: Bring all currently functioning smart key remotes to the appointment. Some systems require all remotes to be present during programming to maintain full functionality.
  • Step 5: At the service facility, the technician will connect a diagnostic interface to the vehicle through the OBD-II port to initiate the key registration process.
  • Step 6: The new smart key will be securely paired with the vehicle’s electronic control system using authorized programming software.
  • Step 7: If any old, lost, or inactive remotes are no longer needed, they may be removed from the system during programming to maintain security.
  • Step 8: Once programming is complete, the technician will test each remote to verify proper operation of all key functions, including locking, unlocking, push-button start, and trunk access.
  • Step 9: The technician may provide information on the number of supported remotes and how to add additional fobs in the future if needed.
  • Step 10: After successful programming, store any spare remotes securely and retain documentation from the service for future reference.

Additional Recommendations:

  • If no working remotes are available, be prepared to show proof of ownership, such as a vehicle title or registration. Periodically test smart key functions and replace batteries as needed to ensure continued performance. Keep at least one backup remote in a safe location in case of emergency or lost keys.
