2023 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: The 2023 BMW X7 does not support onboard programming. Programming a smart key remote requires specialized diagnostic tools and must be performed by a certified technician or authorized dealer.

  • Step 1: Confirm whether you're adding an additional smart key or replacing a lost one. In most cases, all remotes must be reprogrammed together during the same session.
  • Step 2: Schedule service with a certified technician or dealer equipped with BMW-compatible diagnostic tools for secure key programming.
  • Step 3: Bring all existing key fobs to the appointment. Any remote not present may be removed from the vehicle’s system during the process.
  • Step 4: If the vehicle is operational, driving it to the technician’s location may be more cost-effective than using mobile service.
  • Step 5: If no working remotes are available, be prepared to show proof of ownership—such as a vehicle title or registration—before programming begins.
  • Step 6: The technician will connect factory-approved diagnostic equipment to your vehicle’s onboard system to access the smart key programming module.
  • Step 7: The new key fob will be securely registered with the vehicle, enabling full access to locking, unlocking, remote start, and ignition functions.
  • Step 8: After programming, the technician will test the smart key for core functions like lock/unlock, engine start, and proximity entry.
  • Step 9: Personally test the fob to confirm all features work correctly, including trunk release, panic alarm, and any additional remote functions.
  • Step 10: If programming more than one key fob, each remote must be added within the same session—typically within 30 seconds—to ensure proper synchronization.
