2023 Cadillac XT4

Programming Guide for 2023 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: This vehicle allows onboard programming of remote fobs under certain conditions. If you have two functional remotes, you can easily add a new one. If you do not have any working remotes, a longer timed procedure must be followed. Review and follow the instructions based on your specific situation.

Programming When Two Working Remotes Are Available: Use the following steps to add a new remote if two recognized remotes are currently available:

  • Step 1: Make sure the vehicle is completely turned off and that all doors are securely closed.
  • Step 2: Place both recognized remote fobs into the front cupholder.
  • Step 3: On the outside of the driver’s door, locate the cap that covers the mechanical key cylinder and remove it.
  • Step 4: Take the mechanical key from one of the remotes, insert it into the exposed cylinder, and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. This activates the remote programming mode. The display will show a message such as READY FOR REMOTE #2.
  • Step 5: Place the new, unprogrammed remote fob into the front cupholder.
  • Step 6: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button once. The vehicle will detect and program the new remote. A message will appear confirming it has been accepted.
  • Step 7: Remove the new remote and press either the Lock or Unlock button to verify it functions correctly.
  • Step 8: To add more remotes, repeat Steps 5 through 7 for each one.
  • Step 9: After all desired remotes are programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
  • Step 10: Return the mechanical key to the remote fob.
  • Step 11: Reinstall the key cylinder cap onto the driver’s door handle.

Programming When No Working Remotes Are Available: If there are no recognized remotes, follow the steps below. This process takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and allows programming of up to eight remotes.

  • Step 1: Verify that the vehicle is off and all doors are closed.
  • Step 2: Remove the key cylinder cap on the driver’s door handle to expose the lock.
  • Step 3: Insert the mechanical key and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. The display will show REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.
  • Step 4: Wait for about 10 minutes until the display changes to PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN.
  • Step 5: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button once. The screen will return to the previous message.
  • Step 6: Repeat Steps 4 and 5 two more times. After the third cycle, all previous remotes will be erased, and the display will read READY FOR REMOTE #1.
  • Step 7: Place the first new remote into the front cupholder.
  • Step 8: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button once to program the remote. The display will confirm once it has been accepted.
  • Step 9: Remove the remote and press the Lock or Unlock button to test its functionality.
  • Step 10: Repeat Steps 7 through 9 to program additional remotes.
  • Step 11: Once all desired remotes have been programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to complete the process.
  • Step 12: Insert the mechanical key back into the remote.
  • Step 13: Reattach the key lock cylinder cap on the driver’s door handle.

Additional Considerations:

Remote Limit: Up to eight remotes can be programmed for a single vehicle.

Timing Matters: All key turns and button presses must be completed within the specified time to ensure success.

Proof of Ownership: If all remotes are lost and external programming assistance is needed, be prepared to present valid ownership documents.
