<h1>2023 GMC Terrain – Smart Key Fob Programming Instructions</h1> Your vehicle offers two programming procedures for keyless entry remote fobs, depending on whether two recognized transmitters are available. Programming with Two Recognized Transmitters Use this method when two currently programmed transmitters are present with you during programming. <ul> <li>Step 1: Remove the key lock cylinder cap from the driver’s door handle. </li> <li>Step 2: Place both recognized transmitters in the front cup holder.</li> <li> Step 3: Insert the mechanical key into the driver’s door lock, then turn it counterclockwise to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. – The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display: “READY FOR REMOTE #2, 3, 4, ETC.” </li> <li>Step 4: Place the new transmitter into the cup holder.</li> <li> Step 5: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. – Once the transmitter is programmed, the DIC will confirm and prompt readiness for the next transmitter. </li> <li>Step 6: Remove the new transmitter from the cup holder and press the LOCK or UNLOCK button to complete pairing. </li> <li>Step 7: To program additional transmitters, repeat Steps 4–6. </li> <li>Step 8: When finished, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for approximately 12 seconds to exit programming mode. </li> <li>Step 9: Reinsert the mechanical key back into the transmitter. </li> </ul> Programming Without Recognized Transmitters Use this method if no programmed transmitters are available. This process takes approximately 30 minutes and allows up to eight remotes to be programmed. Make sure all remotes to be programmed are with you before starting. <ul> <li>Step 1: Remove the key lock cylinder cap from the driver’s door handle. </li> <li>Step 2: Insert the mechanical key into the door lock and turn it counterclockwise to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. – The DIC will display: “REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.” </li> <li>Step 3: Wait for 10 minutes until the display changes to “PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN.” – Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. – The message will return to: “REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.” </li> <li>Step 4: Repeat Step 3 two more times. After the third cycle, all previous transmitters will be erased. – The DIC will now display: “READY FOR REMOTE #1.”</li> <li> Step 5: Place the new transmitter in the cup holder. </li> <li>Step 6: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. – The DIC will confirm successful programming and indicate readiness for the next remote. </li> <li>Step 7: Remove the transmitter and press LOCK or UNLOCK to finalize pairing. </li> <li>Step 8: Repeat Steps 5–7 for each additional remote you wish to program. </li> <li>Step 9: Once all remotes are programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to exit programming mode. </li> <li>Step 10: Return the mechanical key to the transmitter.</li> </ul>
