2023 Toyota Prius Prime Smart Key Programming Instructions
Keyless Entry Remote Fob – Step-by-Step Guide
Important Notice: The 2023 Prius Prime is equipped with an advanced Smart Key System that cannot be programmed manually. All remote fob programming requires the use of certified diagnostic tools capable of interfacing with the vehicle’s onboard immobilizer and electronic control units.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Ensure the vehicle is parked and all doors are closed. Remove any previously registered key fobs from the interior to prevent interference.
- Step 2: Connect a Toyota-compatible diagnostic scanner to the OBD-II port located under the dashboard, just beneath the steering column.
- Step 3: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button twice without pressing the brake pedal to activate the vehicle’s accessory mode. This powers the electronic modules necessary for programming.
- Step 4: Access the diagnostic tool's menu and navigate to the Smart Key or Immobilizer section. Choose the function to register or add a new smart key.
- Step 5: When prompted, bring the new smart key fob close to the START button. The system will detect its signal and begin the programming process.
- Step 6: Once detection is confirmed, follow the instructions on the diagnostic tool to complete registration. You may see the hazard lights flash or hear an audible chime, indicating successful programming.
- Step 7: Repeat the registration process for any additional key fobs you want to program. The system can store multiple smart keys.
- Step 8: After all keys are registered, exit the programming mode using the scan tool. Then press the ENGINE START/STOP button once to power off the vehicle.
- Step 9: Test the newly programmed smart key to ensure all functions are working, including: Lock and unlock via proximity sensors Push-button engine start Remote trunk release (if equipped)
Additional Information:
- If no recognized key is available, a reset of the immobilizer system may be required before a new key can be registered. Always use a smart key that is compatible with the 2023 Prius Prime’s frequency and system. Replace the smart key battery before programming to avoid signal issues. During registration, make sure there are no nearby devices emitting wireless signals that could cause interference.
