2024 Subaru Legacy Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Important Notice: The 2024 Subaru Legacy does not support onboard programming for its smart key remote fob. Programming must be performed by a qualified technician using specialized diagnostic equipment.

Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Schedule service with a certified automotive technician or authorized provider who has the proper tools and experience to program smart key systems.
  • Step 2: If your vehicle is operational, consider driving it to the service location to potentially reduce costs compared to mobile service appointments.
  • Step 3: The technician will connect professional diagnostic tools to the vehicle’s onboard system and complete the smart key programming process.
  • Step 4: After programming, all remote functions—including locking, unlocking, and push-button start—will be tested to ensure proper operation.

Additional Notes:

  • If no working fobs are available, proof of ownership such as the vehicle title or registration may be required. Some systems require the presence of all remotes during programming to maintain functionality across existing keys. Ensure the technician has experience with Subaru smart key systems to avoid compatibility or setup issues.
