2024 Toyota Prius Prime Smart Key Programming Instructions

Keyless Entry Remote Fob – Step-by-Step Guide

Important Notice: The 2024 Prius Prime is equipped with a Smart Key System that does not support manual or onboard programming. All smart key fobs must be programmed using specialized diagnostic equipment capable of accessing the vehicle’s immobilizer and keyless entry system.

Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Ensure the vehicle is parked securely with the ignition off. Remove all existing smart keys from the vehicle interior to avoid signal interference during programming.
  • Step 2: Connect a certified diagnostic scan tool to the OBD-II port beneath the dashboard on the driver’s side. Power on the scan tool and select the appropriate vehicle year, make, and model.
  • Step 3: Switch the vehicle to accessory mode by pressing the ENGINE START/STOP button twice without pressing the brake pedal. This activates the vehicle’s electronic systems without starting the engine.
  • Step 4: Using the scan tool, navigate to the “Smart Key” or “Immobilizer” function in the programming menu. Select the option to add or register a new key fob.
  • Step 5: When prompted, hold the new smart key near the ENGINE START/STOP button or designated registration area until the system detects the key.
  • Step 6: Follow the remaining prompts on the diagnostic tool to complete the key registration. The system may flash the hazard lights or issue a chime to confirm successful programming.
  • Step 7: Repeat the registration steps for any additional smart keys, ensuring each one is successfully recognized and stored in the system.
  • Step 8: After all smart keys are registered, close out the programming session on the scan tool. Power off the vehicle by pressing the START/STOP button once.
  • Step 9: Test all programmed smart keys for proper functionality, including: Lock and unlock via smart access Remote start or push-button ignition Trunk/hatch release functions

Additional Information:

  • If no original smart keys are available, a reset of the immobilizer control unit may be required before new keys can be registered. Always confirm key fob compatibility with the 2024 Prius Prime before beginning programming. Avoid keeping electronic devices near the vehicle during programming, as they may interfere with signal detection. The vehicle can store multiple smart keys; refer to your owner’s manual for maximum capacity.
