2025 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: The 2025 BMW X6 does not support onboard programming. Smart key remotes must be programmed by a certified technician or authorized dealer using manufacturer-approved diagnostic equipment.

  • Step 1: Determine if you're adding a new smart key or replacing a lost one. In most cases, all key fobs must be reprogrammed together during the same session.
  • Step 2: Schedule an appointment with a qualified technician or authorized dealer who has access to the proper diagnostic tools for your vehicle.
  • Step 3: Bring all current key fobs with you. Any remotes not present during programming may be removed from the system and stop functioning.
  • Step 4: If your vehicle is still drivable, taking it directly to the service provider may reduce overall costs compared to using mobile service.
  • Step 5: If no working fobs are available, be prepared to show proof of vehicle ownership—such as the title or registration—before programming can begin.
  • Step 6: The technician will use advanced diagnostic equipment to interface with your vehicle’s onboard system and initiate the key programming sequence.
  • Step 7: The new remote will be electronically registered with the vehicle, enabling locking, unlocking, and ignition functions.
  • Step 8: The technician will test the remote to verify it properly controls all essential features, including door locks and push-button start.
  • Step 9: Personally test the smart key to confirm functionality, including proximity entry, trunk access, and panic alarm features.
  • Step 10: If multiple remotes are being programmed, each must be added within the same session—usually within 30 seconds—to ensure proper system recognition.
