Programming Instructions for 2007 Mazda CX-7 Smart Key, Flip Key Remote, and Transponder Key
Part 1: Programming the Remote Portion of the Flip Key This procedure programs the remote (lock/unlock) functions of the flip key. Timing is important, so read through all steps before beginning.
- Step 1: Open the driver’s door and leave it open throughout the process.
- Step 2: Use the interior door switch to lock and then unlock the driver’s door.
- Step 3: Insert the key into the ignition.
- Step 4: Turn the key from OFF to ON and back to OFF three times within 10 seconds. Leave the key in the ignition in the OFF position.
- Step 5: Close and then open the driver’s door three times. Leave the door open after this step.
- Step 6: The vehicle will confirm entry into programming mode by locking and unlocking the doors once.
- Step 7: Press any button on the first remote twice. The vehicle will respond by locking and unlocking the doors again to confirm programming.
- Step 8: To program additional remotes (up to three total), repeat Step 7 for each one.
- Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition. The vehicle will complete the programming process with a final series of door lock and unlock cycles (about four times).
Part 2: Programming the Transponder (Key Blade) Portion of the Flip Key This procedure programs the ignition chip portion of the flip key. A minimum of two existing programmed keys is required. Make sure the new key is properly cut before beginning.
- Step 1: Insert the first working transponder key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position. Wait at least one second (until the red key icon in the instrument cluster turns off), then remove the key.
- Step 2: Within five seconds, insert the second programmed key and turn it to the ON position. Leave it on for at least one second but no more than five seconds, then remove it.
- Step 3: Within ten seconds, insert the new key to be programmed and turn it to the ON position. If successful, the red key warning light will illuminate briefly and then turn off within one second. If unsuccessful, the red key light will flash repeatedly. Remove the key, wait one minute, and repeat the process.
Part 3: Programming a Smart Key The smart key system on the 2007 Mazda CX-7 is not user-programmable. It requires professional equipment and software to complete the registration process. Procedure Overview: Confirm that the smart key is compatible with the vehicle and not previously programmed to another car. Arrange service with a certified automotive technician or service center equipped with the appropriate diagnostic tools. The technician will connect to the vehicle’s onboard system and register the new smart key using specialized programming software. Once complete, the technician will verify that all smart key functions—lock/unlock, proximity detection, and push-button start—are working correctly.
